What Should You Pack for a Staycation?
During the current climate, it seems like we’re going to spend some time getting used to the idea of staycations, and it leaves the perfect opportunity to explore areas closer to home. However, no matter whether you’re going abroad or staying nearby, you’ll need to pack plenty of clothes and accessories to keep you going for the duration of your stay.
So, here’s what to pack for a staycation here in the UK.
- 1.T-shirts, shorts, and the usual holiday clothing
Of course, it goes without saying that you’ll need to pack plenty of clothes to last your entire stay. If you’re going for a longer time, consider choosing some solid, basic pieces you can count on styling with lots of different outfits.
The only difference when planning a staycation is remembering to pack a sufficient amount of cold-weather and rainy-day outfits, too. We’re talking chunky cardigans and jeans in addition to the exotic denim shorts and teeny beach tops.
- 2.A raincoat and umbrella
Following on from the previous point, it’s always worth being prepared, especially seeing as you can’t always count on the UK weather to remain warm and sunny. Packing a raincoat and an umbrella will certainly pay off, and you’ll be feeling very grateful you did when you come across those showery spells.
- 3.Toiletries, skincare, makeup, etc
Another seemingly obvious thing to pack is your daily toiletries, but we always end up forgetting something by the time we arrive. Some of the essentials that you mustn’t leave without include toothbrushes, toothpaste, shower gel and perfume.
- 4.Sunscreen
Although this is technically a skincare item, sunscreen deserves its own place on this list as its importance is underrated too often. While the UK isn’t always sunny, you don’t want to find yourself coming home blistered from the Sun after a day out.
- 5.Versatile footwear
If you’re packing for a holiday, you probably can’t bring your entire shoe collection, so it’s time to narrow it down to select pairs. While those neon pink stilettos may be your favourite shoe, they’re probably not your most versatile and you’ll be better off choosing shoes you can wear for multiple occasions.
The shoes you decide to take depend on the holiday itself, but a good formula is:
- -One pair of trainers or sports shoes
- -One pair of sandals
- -One pair of ‘going out’ shoes
- -An optional additional pair of casual shoes (which you’ll wear on the way)
- 6.Outdoor games and activities
Another benefit of the staycation is that you do have the added luggage room if you’re taking your car. This means there’s plenty of space to bring some outdoor games, such as beach tennis or football, which you can play whilst you soak up those summer evenings.
- 7.Beach towels and bathing suits
Finally, any beach holiday can’t go without your beach towels and bathing suits and would be a disaster without them! If you’re looking to up your game when it comes to sandy beaches, purchase some sand-proof beach towels and you won’t find yourself bringing half the beach home with you at the end of your stay.
Final thoughts
It’s true, staycations are the new normal at the moment, and there’s so much to love about them. Now that you know exactly what to pack, you’re prepared to take an adventure in your own country this summer.
